Socioecological Model

Providing counseling and psychological services for clients and their families plays an important role in promoting the public health of our communities. We acknowledge that health is influenced by many different factors at different levels and by working directly with individuals to improve their lives we hope to improve relationships and promote community wellness overall. This snowballing effect is part of a "socioecological" approach to community health.

Educational Outreach

Our dedication to public health means not only providing individual services, but also providing educational outreach that promotes general wellness and prevents illness in our communities. As part of our educational outreach efforts, we think it is important that you know how our community's health is currently doing. Below is an overview of what a community health needs assessment is and results of the latest needs assessment for our area. At the bottom of the page you can find a link to a local community resource guide that contains a list of local organizations working to address the needs of our community.

What is a needs assessment?

A needs assessment is an important public health tool that provides us with a snapshot of how our communities are doing. In our area, Munson Healthcare conducts a needs assessment every three years and publishes a report that summarizes health statistics. These reports also include input from community members regarding what they believe to be the most important topics for health professionals to address. 

​

The Munson Healthcare report for the Cadillac Hospital region includes data from Lake, Missaukee, Osceola, and Wexford counties. Top Priorities from Community Members

Mental health and substance use were identified in the needs assessment as the top priority for community members living in the Cadillac Hospital area. The chart from the needs assessment below indicates that over one-third of teens reported symptoms of a major depressive episode and 10% of adults reported experiencing poor mental health for at least 2 weeks in the past month. Suicide rates in this area are higher than the state average and depression rates are about the same (around 15%) as the state average among older adults (65+).

Our Role

As mental health providers in our area it is important for us to listen to community members and recognize the need for services. As part of our role in promoting public health we believe it is important to meet community members where they are and work together to address needs. We try to be as flexible as possible by providing both in-person and virtual telehealth appointments. In addition to flexible appointment options, we also to try be as flexible as possible with payment options by accepting most major insurances. If you do not see your insurance listed or do not have insurance we will work with you to make sure that payment is not a barrier that prevents you from receiving services. As a comprehensive community counseling center we also provide a wide range of psychological assessments and testing services.
